For her first solo show at Galleri Brandstrup, Trine Lise Nedreaas will show new video, drawing and sculpture. The work in this show is inspired by human ambitions to grasp the intangible and to comprehend concepts that far exceed our limited capacity of understanding. The mind-blowing endlessness of time and space are brought down to an earthly scale through simple materials and playful human performances.
A hula-hooper spins glowing hoops around her body; a solar system turned inside out. Collapsed and tangled orbits glow, trajectories of light robbed of their former velocity.
An artiste performs a naughty re-enactment of the big bang theory. A singer is separated from her voice by time and space. Open geometric structures map interstellar vectors.
Scribble-like forms transcribe ephemeral traces.
Nedreaas lives and works in Bergen, Norway. Her work has been shown in the Mori Art Museum (Tokyo), PS1 Moma (NY), Kunstwerke (Berlin), Palazzo delle Arti (Napoli), Everson Museum (NY), Kunstverein Schwerin, New Center for Contemporary Art (Louisville), MACRO, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea (Rome), Art Pavilion in Zagreb, Albright Knox Gallery (Buffalo, NY), Astrup Fearnley (Oslo).
