Helsfyr Atrium was developed by property developer Schage Eiendom in 2010. The grand building is located at one of Oslo’s most trafficked roads, and has with its innovative architecture already become a landmark. Helsfyr Atruim is 13 stories tall, adding up to 38 000 m2 with a centered open atrium. Through Galleri Brandstrup, Kjell Nupen was commissioned to create a site-specific artwork that could be seen from all floors of the building but would be limited to the common area on the ground floor.
Nupen frequently worked with glass throughout his artistry. For the atrium, he integrated a dynamic pattern of colored glass in his characteristic pallet “Nupen Blue”. The color was amongst his most striking achievements, which he used with the intention to endow the land and seascapes of his hometown Kristiansand. The lines that cover the ground floor common areas of the building, shears the radiant color blue with a few sheds of orange and resembles the luminous colors of the sky.
