Bjørn Båsen (1981) achieved his Bachelor of Fine Art (Hons) degree at The Art Institute of Bournemouth, UK, before he received a Master of Fine Art at The National Academy of Art in Oslo. Båsen works with a wide range of materials: textile, leather, porcelain, wood and oil paint to mention some, which is expressed using a variety of media: paintings, sculpture and installation. Båsen is inspired by subcultures; “the opportunity to remove yourself from the common world and immerge into a society that suits you better”. With his works he reveals the duplex complexity of the bourgeois esthetics: the decadent and the grotesque, the outcome is his own personal mythology.
Despite his young age, Båsen’s works are included in several significant collections: Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, Statoil and The Brask Collection, as well as many private collections, nationally as well as internationally. Båsen has exhibitied at Stenersen Museet, Oslo, Astrup Fearnley Museet of Modern Art, The Solo Project, Basel, and Nordnorsk Kunst Museum amongst other important galleries and museums.
Bjørn Båsen has been with Galleri Brandstrup since 2008.
